In this interview, we speak with two of our key team members: our artisan patina painter and our pattern cutter. These skilled professionals play an integral role in the creation of our high-end footwear and accessories, and we are thrilled to share their stories with you.
First, we spoke with our artisan patina painter, who is responsible for creating the unique and beautiful patina finishes that are so closely associated with Dominique Saint Paul.
Q: What inspired you to become an artisan patina painter?
A: I have always been drawn to the art of patina painting, and I have a deep appreciation for the rich colors and textures that can be achieved through this technique. For me, the process of creating a patina finish is a true art form, and I love being able to bring my creativity to the table and to create something truly unique.
Q: Can you walk us through the process of creating a patina finish?
A: The process of creating a patina finish is highly intricate and involves several steps. First, I prepare the leather by sanding and conditioning it to ensure that it is ready to receive the patina. Next, I mix the pigments and apply them to the leather using a brush, carefully building up the color and texture until I achieve the desired result. Finally, I apply a protective sealant to the leather to ensure that the patina finish lasts for years to come.

A: I have always had a passion for design, and I have always been drawn to the art of pattern cutting. For me, there is something truly special about the process of creating a design and seeing it come to life through the patterns that I create.

A: The process of creating a pattern starts with an idea or a sketch, which I then translate into a full-scale design. I work with a variety of tools, including rulers, squares, and cutting knives, to create the patterns, which are then used to create the final product. It's a highly skilled and precise process, but it's also incredibly rewarding to see my designs come to life in the form of beautiful footwear and accessories.
